Robert Gardener (Bob)
I was born in Southampton very close to the water and learnt to sail in the Solent whilst attending school.
I moved to Germany in 1973 and renewed my interest for sailing in 1996 with an Atlantic crossing, I’ve not been able to get away since then. I started to teach sailing in 1997 with a sailing school situated in the Hoewachter-Bucht. In ‘98 I changed schools and spent a few summer seasons in the Baltic Sea and the winters in and around the Canary Islands. This wasn’t beneficial for a relationship, so upon orders from my girlfriend I got myself a normal job.
After 5 years I quit to go sailing for 2 years, upon my return it proved difficult to find a rewarding, regular position and the chance to teach English cropped up which as a freelancer allows me time enough to continue teaching sailing.
I have the licences necessary in Germany for motor /sailing yacht and radio operator.
With my own yacht a 1965 Ranger 29 I’ve undertaken many short trips and a 3 month solo around the Eastern Baltic visiting Poland , Estonia , Latvia , Finland , Sweden and Denmark; thereby discovering and appreciating the uniqueness of the Baltic.
Through the many instruction courses , delivery , and private trips in the Baltic , North Sea , English Channel , Bay of Biscay, Atlantic coast ,Madeira , Canary Islands ,Cape Verde, Mediterranean from Italy to Gibraltar , the Caribbean and Atlantic crossings, I’ve managed to collect around 40,000 miles of experience.
